Biography




Jiten Thukral and Sumir Tagra have worked collaboratively under the alias of Thukral & Tagra since 2000. In this time they have experimented with a wide variety of media ranging from painting, installation and video to music, fashion, graphic and product design. Within the rubric of their signature project Bosedk' they have been able to blur fine art with design and popular culture. The basic premise of the Mumbai exhibition deals with consumerism and the rapid expansion of the mall culture in urban India. Both canvas and installation based works will be on display.

This is the second time Thukral & Tagra are showing their work in Mumbai, the first being a solo show at the NCPA in 2006. Over the last few years, they have displayed their work at a number of prestigious exhibitions including Art Basel, Switzerland; MOCA Shanghai; Marella Gallery, Milano; Bose Pacia, New York; The Armory Show, New York; FIAC, Paris; Taipei Art Show, Taipei; Armani Casa, Milan; Nature Morte, New Delhi as well as multiple international art auctions. They have conceived projects such as designing clothing for United Colors of Benetton, research projects such as “PUT IT ON” for spreading HIV/AIDS awareness, and commissioned projects for Pepsi international, Conde Nast, Nokia and Ogilvy & Mather. They received prestigious awards in art and design, recent accolades to their name include receiving the National Award on Commissioned projects and being listed in “101 Emerging designers of the world” by Wallpaper magazine, both in 2006.
