Artists > Sadanand

Born in 1982, Sadanand studied fine art at the Raheja School of Art in Mumbai. Having participated in group shows and residencies, his exhibition at Chatterjee & Lal represents his debut solo.

Sadanand’s employs vinyl on composite aluminium board, applying coloured strips and marking the surface with a scalpel to produce abstract compositions. The resulting works are joyous, soaring affairs. With clear references towards the geometric constructions of modernist painters Joseph Albers and Kazimir Malevich, the artist is able draw these influences into a specifically local and contemporary context. The colour palette here reminds us both of the earthy colours of Mumbai’s suburban areas as well the hoarding- choked, neon-bright, central and southern parts of the city.

Chatterjee & Lal are please to present an artist who, in their opinion, is an entirely fresh and welcome addition to the emerging artists’ scene.
